Translation

Logo que o pecaminoso Ajāmila pronunciou o nome Nārāyaṇa, aqueles quatro belos homens imediatamente chegaram e tranquilizaram-no, dizendo: “Não temas. Não temas.” Desejamos que Vossa Onipotência nos diga quem são eles. Se julgas que somos capazes de entendê-los, por favor, revela-nos quem são eles.

As soon as the sinful Ajāmila uttered the name Nārāyaṇa, these four beautiful men immediately arrived and reassured him, saying, “Do not fear. Do not fear.” We wish to know about them from Your Lordship. If you think we are able to understand them, kindly describe who they are.

SIGNIFICADO—Os mensageiros de Yamarāja, sentindo-se muito consternados com a derrota que lhes impuseram os quatro Viṣṇudūtas, queriam levá-los diante de Yamarāja e, se possível, puni-los. Caso contrário, eles pretendiam cometer suicídio. Entretanto, antes de tomar qualquer uma dessas medidas, queriam que Yamarāja, o qual também é onis­ciente, compartilhasse com eles as informações que tinha acerca dos Viṣṇudūtas.

The order carriers of Yamarāja, being very much aggrieved because of their defeat by the four Viṣṇudūtas, wanted to bring them before Yamarāja and, if possible, punish them. Otherwise they desired to commit suicide. Before pursuing either course, however, they wanted to know about the Viṣṇudūtas from Yamarāja, who is also omniscient.
