The Lord’s excellent speech was difficult to comprehend because of its momentous import and its most profound significance. The sages heard it with wide-open ears and pondered it as well. But although hearing, they could not understand what He intended to do.
O excelente discurso do Senhor era difícil de compreender por causa de seu importante conteúdo e de seu profundíssimo significado. Os sábios ouviram-no com ouvidos bem atentos e também ponderaram sobre ele. Contudo, apesar de terem-no ouvido, não puderam compreender o que Ele pretendia fazer.

Comentário
It should be understood that no one can surpass the Supreme Personality of Godhead in speaking. There is no difference between the Supreme Person and His speeches, for He stands on the absolute platform. The sages tried with wide-open ears to understand the words from the lips of the Supreme Lord, but although His speech was very concise and meaningful, the sages could not completely comprehend what He was saying. They could not even comprehend the purport of the speech or what the Supreme Lord wanted to do. Nor could they understand whether the Lord was angry or pleased with them.
Deve-se compreender que ninguém pode superar a Suprema Personalidade de Deus em oratória. Não há diferença entre a Pessoa Suprema e Seus discursos, pois Ele Se encontra na plataforma absoluta. Os sábios procuraram, com ouvidos bem atentos, entender as palavras dos lábios do Senhor Supremo, mas, embora Seu discurso fosse muito conciso e significativo, os sábios não puderam compreender completamente o que Ele estava dizendo. Nem mesmo puderam compreender o significado do discurso ou o que o Senhor Supremo pretendia fazer. Tampouco puderam entender se o Senhor estava irritado ou satisfeito com eles.
