If I did not perform prescribed duties, all these worlds would be put to ruination. I would be the cause of creating unwanted population, and I would thereby destroy the peace of all living beings.

Significado
Varṇa-saṅkara is unwanted population which disturbs the peace of the general society. In order to check this social disturbance, there are prescribed rules and regulations by which the population can automatically become peaceful and organized for spiritual progress in life. When Lord Kṛṣṇa descends, naturally He deals with such rules and regulations in order to maintain the prestige and necessity of such important performances. The Lord is the father of all living entities, and if the living entities are misguided, indirectly the responsibility goes to the Lord. Therefore, whenever there is general disregard of regulative principles, the Lord Himself descends and corrects the society. We should, however, note carefully that although we have to follow in the footsteps of the Lord, we still have to remember that we cannot imitate Him. Following and imitating are not on the same level. We cannot imitate the Lord by lifting Govardhana Hill, as the Lord did in His childhood. It is impossible for any human being. We have to follow His instructions, but we may not imitate Him at any time. The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (10.33.30–31) affirms:
Varṇa-saṅkara es una población no deseada que perturba la paz de la sociedad en general. Con el fin de impedir ese disturbio social existen reglas y regulaciones prescritas, mediante las cuales la población puede alcanzar la paz automáticamente y organizarse para el progreso espiritual en la vida. Como es natural, cuando el Señor Kṛṣṇa desciende se ocupa de esas reglas y regulaciones, con el fin de mantener el prestigio y poner de manifiesto la necesidad de esas importantes funciones. El Señor es el padre de todas las entidades vivientes, y si éstas se desencaminan, la responsabilidad recae indirectamente sobre Él. En consecuencia, cuando quiera que haya un descuido general de los principios regulativos, el propio Señor desciende y corrige a la sociedad. Sin embargo, hemos de notar con cuidado que, aunque tenemos que seguir los pasos del Señor, aun así debemos recordar que no podemos imitarlo. No es lo mismo seguir que imitar. No podemos imitar al Señor y levantar la colina Govardhana, tal como el Señor lo hizo en Su niñez. Eso es imposible para cualquier ser humano. Tenemos que seguir Sus instrucciones, pero no debemos tratar de imitarlo en ningún momento. El Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (10.33.30–31) afirma:
manasāpi hy anīśvaraḥ
vinaśyaty ācaran mauḍhyād
yathārudro ’bdhi-jaṁ viṣam

“One should simply follow the instructions of the Lord and His empowered servants. Their instructions are all good for us, and any intelligent person will perform them as instructed. However, one should guard against trying to imitate their actions. One should not try to drink the ocean of poison in imitation of Lord Śiva.”
«Uno simplemente debe seguir las instrucciones del Señor y Sus sirvientes apoderados. Todas sus instrucciones son buenas para nosotros, y cualquier persona inteligente las llevará a cabo tal como se indican. No obstante, uno debe cuidarse de imitar las acciones de ellos. Uno no debe tratar de beber el océano de veneno, imitando al Señor Śiva».
We should always consider the position of the īśvaras, or those who can actually control the movements of the sun and moon, as superior. Without such power, one cannot imitate the īśvaras, who are superpowerful. Lord Śiva drank poison to the extent of swallowing an ocean, but if any common man tries to drink even a fragment of such poison, he will be killed. There are many pseudo devotees of Lord Śiva who want to indulge in smoking gañjā (marijuana) and similar intoxicating drugs, forgetting that by so imitating the acts of Lord Śiva they are calling death very near. Similarly, there are some pseudo devotees of Lord Kṛṣṇa who prefer to imitate the Lord in His rāsa-līlā, or dance of love, forgetting their inability to lift Govardhana Hill. It is best, therefore, that one not try to imitate the powerful, but simply follow their instructions; nor should one try to occupy their posts without qualification. There are so many “incarnations” of God without the power of the Supreme Godhead.
Siempre debemos considerar que la posición de los īśvaras, o aquellos que de hecho pueden controlar los movimientos del Sol y la Luna, es superior. Si no se tiene un poder tal, no se puede imitar a los īśvaras, los cuales son superpoderosos. El Señor Śiva bebió todo un océano de veneno, pero si un hombre común y corriente tratara de beber siquiera una gota de ese veneno, moriría. Hay muchos seudodevotos del Señor Śiva que quieren entregarse a fumar gañjā (marihuana) y otras drogas enajenantes similares, olvidando que, al imitar así los actos del Señor Śiva, están pidiéndole a la muerte que se les acerque. De igual manera, hay algunos seudodevotos del Señor Kṛṣṇa que prefieren imitar al Señor en Su rāsa-līlā, o danza del amor, olvidando que son incapaces de levantar la colina Govardhana. Luego es mejor que uno no trate de imitar a los poderosos, sino que simplemente siga sus instrucciones; ni tampoco debe uno tratar de ocupar sus posiciones sin tener la aptitud para ello. Hay muchísimas «encarnaciones» de Dios sin el poder del Señor Supremo.
